'Fixer Upper' Couple Snags Historic Estate in Waco

The popular stars of HGTV’s “Fixer Upper” have landed a new home in Waco, TX, where they already live in a century-old farmhouse on an acreage with their four children and dozens of animals.

Officials for Magnolia Homes, the company Chip and Joanna Gaines own, told the Waco Tribune-Herald the couple hasn’t decided what to do with their new Classical Revival home, or whether it will be included on the hit series.

The 4,831-square-foot home was built in 1903 and lovingly renovated by the most recent owners, Garry and Jane Dossey. "It's been a labor of love," Garry told the paper. "At times it's almost killed us."

The love shows in this Southern beauty, which already has realized much of the potential that fixer-uppers crave. The gleaming hardwood floors in the large foyer lead through Greek columns to expansive living and dining rooms with French doors and built-ins. (The latter would not hold a television if the Gaines family did move in, because despite being small-screen stars, they are television-free.)

The spacious country kitchen is decked out with ample counter space, a large center island and an ornate recessed ceiling. A wood-paneled study boasts high ceilings, built-ins, and a fireplace for cozying up indoors, while two gracious porches offer shade for relaxing and sipping tea in the summertime.

Guests can enjoy their own cottage out back, complete with a fireplace and kitchen, and it’s easy to picture Drake, Ella, Duke, and Emmie enjoying the childrens’ playhouse where the Dosseys’ grandchildren have frolicked. The previous owners, who listed the home last year for $525,000 and dropped the price this year to $498,000, worried about finding the right buyers.

"A 110-year-old house needs some care,” Garry explained. “I think the Magnolia people will have the resources to do it."

The listing agent was Doug Eastland of Weichert Realtors.
