The Final Frontier: A USS Enterprise Theater Above a Garage Near Houston

Star Trek bunk beds

Pod-style bunk beds await weary space travelers.

In a town outside Houston, a Star Trek fan with a vision sought to boldly go where no one had gone before: Re-create the USS Enterprise as a home theater with all the bells and whistles.

Now he’s selling the nearly 6,400-square-foot mansion and the USS Cyrus, as he calls it.

“He’s always been interested in space travel, in being in the stars, and he decided that if there was no way to travel to the stars, he’d bring them here,” said listing agent William Machupa, Jr., of 1st Texas Realtors.

For $1.265 million, a new owner can enjoy the Star Trek-inspired addition to the whimsically designed mansion. Elsewhere in the home, one of four bedrooms is decked out as a medieval castle, and another has a staircase to a loft decorated with musical notes.

Star Trek bathroom

The theme carries through to the bathroom.

By the indoor pool is a staircase for beaming up to the Trekkie extravaganza. Enter through pneumatic doors with activation pads that flank a 100-plus-inch screen beneath a faux-starlit sky.

A cosmic kitchenette sits on a stage at the back of the home theater, with a snack bar and bench seating.

Sleep in space pod-style bunk beds, or work at a desk station worthy of Spock and Uhura — all with blue lighting to maximize the sci-fi experience.

A Space Age bathroom is outfitted with a heavily jetted shower and jetted tub.

The Texas company that built the space, Tiny Town Studios, specializes in playhouses, treehouses and fantasy-style pool additions, such as shipwrecks.
