House of the Week: 1920s Villa Overlooking the Sunset Strip

It may not be the Copacabana, but it’s easy to picture Barry Manilow crooning from the balconies of this villa where he used to live above Los Angeles’ famed Sunset Strip.

Sweeping views of the strip and the city are visible from the waterfall pool of this remodeled 1925 Mediterranean home, listed for $3.5 million.

“You wouldn’t expect a block north of Sunset Boulevard to have amazing views, but it overlooks Chateau Marmont, which is one of the most iconic locations in Hollywood,” said listing agent Christophe Choo of Coldwell Banker Previews International.

The gated 4-bedroom, 5-bath home boasts an elegant living room with fireplace, a mirrored dining room with views and a massive chef’s kitchen with a breakfast area that opens through French doors onto a courtyard with a fountain and fireplace.

The master suite also features a fireplace, plus a sitting room and a balcony overlooking the courtyard.

A downstairs entertainment room with its own fireplace offers direct access to an office, a gym and the pool and spa.

“It’s a very chic house in the hills where there’s a young, hip crowd,” Choo said.

When Barry Manilow lived there years ago, he’s said to have used the home next door as his office. The entertainer now lives in Las Vegas.
