When Pam and Todd McNulty first bought this mid-century modern home outside Los Angeles, Pam would stand for long minutes in the living room before leaving for work and say to herself, “I can’t believe I live here.”
At work, she’d tell colleagues how she couldn’t wait to get home. “We were so thrilled with our house,” she said.
The newness wore off, but Pam still loves to eat breakfast while gazing at her kitchen. A favorite piece: The 1950s toaster that works but sits mostly unused because it’s a vintage art piece — like the house itself.
Built by architect Richard Leitch in 1954, the home has been owned by another architect, a designer and author Bernard Cooper. The McNultys have listed it with agent Michael Dilsaver of Partners Trust for $1.175 million.
True to its era, the low-slung, 2,115-square-foot home is clad with walls of windows and ceilings of exposed planks and beams. The McNultys brightened up the concrete floors with layers of white microfinish and designed each room to offer a different experience.
Narrow windows around the tops of rooms open to create a breeze throughout the open floor plan.
The views are of large oaks and boulders, as well as two interior courtyards. Todd’s favorite pastime is laying on a float in the heated swimming pool, looking up at the trees.
